Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 1, 2025

HazScan (“the App”) is developed by Tyler Brundage (“we”, “us”). This policy describes how the App handles your information.

Short version: HazScan does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. Everything stays on your device.

Camera

The App uses your device camera solely to recognize hazardous materials placards in real time. Camera frames are processed entirely on-device using Apple’s Vision framework. No images or video are captured, stored, uploaded, or transmitted. No camera data ever leaves your device.

Data storage

The App stores a local scan history on your device using iOS system storage (UserDefaults). This history contains only the UN numbers, material names, and guide numbers you have looked up. This data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party. You can clear this history by deleting the App.

ERG database

The App includes a bundled copy of the 2024 Emergency Response Guidebook data. This database is read-only, ships with the App, and requires no network connection to use.

Network access

HazScan does not make any network requests. The App functions entirely offline. There are no servers, no APIs, no analytics endpoints, and no telemetry.

Analytics and tracking

The App does not include any analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, crash reporting services, or tracking tools. We do not use cookies, device fingerprinting, or any other tracking technology.

Third-party services

The App does not integrate with any third-party services. The only external dependency is the GRDB library (an open-source SQLite wrapper), which operates entirely on-device.

Children’s privacy

The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
